July 11, 2023 @ 10:00 am 11:00 am CDT

Register for live webinar or recording

This instruction session provides basic cataloging instruction for the RDA instructions relevant to books, multi-volume sets, pamphlets, and other monographic resources primarily consisting of text. All examples are provided using the MARC 21 Format for Bibliographic Data (MFBD).

This session assumes some basic knowledge of cataloging and the MARC 21 Format for Bibliographic Data. Sessions are geared to both copy and original catalogers at all levels, and they are still accessible for those who are just starting to learn. Access to the RDA Toolkit and ClassWeb tools are not required. Public and academic library staff members will be interested in these workshops because they will be able to identify the attributes necessary for quality MARC records supplied by vendors and understand some of the new and changed vocabularies that support linked data. Special library staff will be interested in these workshops because they will be able to distinguish between core attributes and special attributes that serve their users. School media specialists will be interested in these workshops because they will be able to identify the core/minimal attributes necessary in the MARC records.

Learning Outcomes: Participants will be able to apply the RDA instructions specific to text resources, and participants will be introduced to the concept of aggregates.
