Does your library have a dusty shelf full of unwanted books that no one ever checks out? Save the collection from the discard pile by creating low-cost displays that make even the most unattractive materials suddenly appealing.
What kind of manipulative magic is this? It’s called merchandising and it’s easy to do (and can even be fun!)
Mary Balint began working in libraries in kindergarten when she gave up her noon recess twice a week to shelve books. She didn’t start getting paid for library work until 1993, when she became a Library Page and has held nearly every library job since then- from Library Associate to Bookmobile Librarian, Cataloger, and Branch Manager. She received her MLIS from Florida State University in 2010 and is currently the Administrator of the Panhandle Public Library Cooperative System.
