To paraphrase a famous quote by George Bernard Shaw, “We don’t stop learning because we grow old; we grow old because we stop learning.”
There is a bit of an urban legend “in the world,” that because we work in libraries, continuous learning happens by osmosis – after all, look at all those books! Of course, that’s simply not true. To be a lifelong learner, we need to be intentional about learning new things, having new experiences and looking at the world from a different perspective at times. In other words, we need to take responsibility for our own learning, our own personal and professional growth.
What have you been doing to “expand your knowledge” – of yourself, your library, or life in general?
