The first generation of the digital revolution brought us the Internet and sprouted a world of information. The second generation is bringing us the “Internet of value” powered by blockchain, which is a new, distributed platform that can ensure the integrity of data exchange between billions of devices without going through a trusted third party.  In this webinar,

  • Learn what blockchain is and appreciate its overall importance,
  • Understand how cryptocurrencies record transactions using blockchain technology,
  • Highlight innovative blockchain applications (e.g., NFTs, DAOs) that are transforming society, and
  • Discuss how libraries can use blockchain and cryptocurrencies to enhance their value.

Chad Mairn is a librarian, teacher, author, and self-described geek who frequently shares his enthusiasm for ‘all-things technology’ as a speaker at library and technology conferences. He is an Information Services Librarian, Assistant Professor, and manages the Innovation Lab at St. Petersburg College. Much of Chad’s recent interests have focused around mobile and emerging technologies. Chad has written a couple of book chapters and numerous articles on library technologies.

For FY2021-22, 70% of the total costs for the PLAN Continuing Education program ($220,000) is supported by federal money, and 30% of this program ($92,991) is supported by state money. The total budget of the project is $312,991.
