This program will address several aspects of library safety and security including the baselines and anomalies of human behavior, safety and security techniques, situational awareness, de-escalation, and the difference between responding and reacting.

Presenters:

  • Dr. Mary Beth Janke has over 30 years of psychology, security, and investigative experience. As a psychologist, Dr. Janke has worked with individuals who are experiencing anxiety, depression, adjustment challenges, trauma, women’s issues, and substance abuse. Dr. Janke has also conducted research and published work in the areas of stalking and domestic violence, self-esteem and young women, and stress management.
  • Donna Miles is the creator of the Hard Target Living Situational Awareness and Violence Prevention curriculum. Her vision is to create a safer nation by empowering people from all walks of life with knowledge and skills to independently prevent and avoid violent or criminal encounters whether they are at work, school, home, or at public events.

Registration Information

For FY2021-22, 70% of the total costs for the PLAN Continuing Education program ($220,000) is supported by federal money, and 30% of this program ($92,991) is supported by state money. The total budget of the project is $312,991.
