As more people seek their information online, many librarians have noticed fewer customers seeking help at the research desk. The need for reliable information, however, has not decreased. Palm Beach County Library System’s Community Research Service was created to navigate this very intersection, which has helped changed the way the library provides service to local government agencies and nonprofit organizations.

Discover how Community Research Service was implemented and how the service has taken librarians out from behind the desk and connected them with the community in fun and unexpected ways, all while flexing their research chops. In this workshop you will learn about the benefits, and challenges, of changing the way research is delivered in your community.

Margaret Barry is a people-focused Branch Manager and Community Research Facilitator for the Palm Beach County Library System.

Jayme Bosio is the Government Research Service Librarian at the Palm Beach County Library System where she provides research for county departments and local officials. Jayme has been a facilitator for the Community Research Service since its inception in 2015.
