Library staff are invited to join the Northwest Regional Library System at their staff development day. Brian Hart will present his workshop, Building Library Support and a Socially Savvy Staff, from 1:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. CT.

Building Library Support and a Socially Savvy Staff with Brian Hart: Public perceptions have long influenced voter behaviors and tendencies on Election Day. So, as the world has become increasingly connected and “smaller,” the role that “big” data, email, and social media play in harnessing those perceptions to influence and win in elections – and virtually every other facet of life – has steadily grown. So how do libraries effectively join the foray for themselves? Brian Hart, Deputy Director for Greensboro Public Library and Director of Special Projects for EveryLibrary, the first national PAC for libraries, will share best practices and strategies learned while working at award-winning libraries and providing strategic and tactical support to help libraries, both small and large, succeed at the ballot box across America. A small group breakout session will also be used to help library staff at all levels of an organization explore how they can and should leverage their networks and daily interactions to help the library build and sustain social and political capital. We will also discuss the many ways that libraries and their staff can “take risks without going rogue” to build rapport, support and a robust following.

For FY2021-22, 70% of the total costs for the PLAN Continuing Education program ($220,000) is supported by federal money, and 30% of this program ($92,991) is supported by state money. The total budget of the project is $312,991.
