I was encouraged to become a librarian (began as a page) by my supervisor and my workplace had a scholarship for minorities. 10:19:45 From Joy : Will the recording of this keynote be made available to conference registrants post the conference? 10:20:00 From Regina Burgess : @Joy: Yes 10:20:11 From Joy : :); thank you 10:26:59 From James : TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — A Tallahassee family thought they found their dream home in Betton Hills instead they found racist language in the neighborhood covenant. Because of it, they chose not to buy the home. And WTXL has learned similar language exists in at least one other Tallahassee neighborhood. The clause reads in part "no person other than the Caucasian race shall own or occupy in this subdivision" "It's unconstitutional. It's unenforceable. It's a very visceral, negative language, and it shouldn't be there," said Mario Taylor, a Betton Hills neighborhood association board member That's why a task force hit the ground running on Tuesday to permanently remove it from the neighborhood clause. 10:28:22 From James : The document was deemed unconstitutional in 1948 and said to be expired in 1970. However, because of an easement in the document, the covenant is still active. 10:33:04 From Alvin : Systemic racism started with the Constitution declaring former slaves as 3/4 of a person. 10:50:43 From Kelly : Can you put the slide back up with the inclusion definition? Thanks! 10:52:31 From Elizabeth : clap clap!! Thank you so much for your presentation. Very Inspiring. 10:52:41 From Madeline : Thank you! 10:52:43 From Charles : Thank you Mark! How can we get past that? 11:00:43 From Regina Burgess : Question from the Q&A: How might staff navigate things like white fragility and "chock" among primarily white leadership at the mention of issues in their own institution? At times it feels as though progress hits a wall with BIPOC people have to dedicate so much labor to protect white feelings while also trying to communicate that there are, in fact, serious systemic issues. 11:00:54 From Regina Burgess : *shock not chock 11:02:33 From Alvin to All panelists : I believe that a willingness to have open and honest dialogue is a start 11:05:49 From Cynthia : Again thank you Mark 11:06:03 From Jesse : ``````````````````` 11:06:04 From Natalie : Thank you for a wonderful presentation! 11:06:05 From Tracy : Thank you! 11:06:10 From Regina : thanks, Mark. 11:06:20 From Jesse : (sorry, cat on keyboard..) 11:06:21 From Beatriz : Wonderful talk, thank you! 11:06:24 From Jesse : Thank you so much!!! 11:06:25 From Preethi : Thank you so much! 11:06:28 From Emily : Thank you! 11:06:41 From Regina Burgess : Today's schedule is on PLAN's website at https://www.plan.lib.fl.us/2020-palc-schedule/.
